In 2005,
the Westwinds Golf Course began using recycled water from VVWRA’s Regional
Wastewater Treatment Plant located on Shay Road in Victorville. Four
miles of purple pipe has been constructed from the treatment plant to
the nine-hole golf course owned by the City of Victorville. The golf
course will use 300 to 400 acre-feet per year of recycled water for
irrigation purposes.
Up until 1981, the Westwinds Golf Course was
irrigated with recycled water produced by the Air Force. When the Base
connected to VVWRA in 1981, they began using potable well water to
irrigate the golf course. The local aquifer will benefit from the
reduced pumping of groundwater due to the use of recycled water.
As the redevelopment of the former George Air
Force Base progresses, the City of Victorville intends to install dual
plumbing to supply recycled water to irrigate athletic fields and
other landscaped areas over the coming years.

Westwinds Golf Course, see our
brochure (Acrobat
Reader required).
